Lapeer Lightning JV defeated Powers Catholic 6-5 on Monday.
Powers Catholic opened up the scoring in the first by scoring two runs.
Lapeer knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the first inning, when Reilly LaFoy tripled, scoring Jesse Johnston from first. Jarren Ross then doubled off the fence in left center on a 3-0 count, scoring LaFoy and tying the game at two.
The Lightning took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning. Matthew Howard came up with the bases loaded and doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs. Parker Duncan then doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring Howard.
Howard earned the victory on the hill for Lapeer. He went three and a third innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits and striking out five. Brendan Huston threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Huston recorded the last eight outs with 5 strikeouts, to earn the save for the Lapeer Lightning JV.
Lapeer tallied eight hits. Duncan and LaFoy each collected two hits to lead Lapeer Lightning JV.
