The Lapeer Lightning JV ran off with the lead late in the game in a 10-5 victory over Bay City Central on Monday.
In the first inning, Central got their offense started when an error led to two unearned runs. Lapeer tied it up in the bottom of the first with a groundout from Ethan Will and a Sac Fly from Tyler Vanecek.
Central re-took the lead in the second with two unearned runs. Lapeer battled back to tie it up again in the bottom of third. The big hit came from Ethan Will as he tripled to left driving in Jesse Johnston from first.
Lapeer was down 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth with two outs. Reilly LaFoy came to the dish and doubled to right. Tim Polidor was hit by a pitch setting the stage for the two out rally. Ethan Will singled on a 0-2 count, scoring LaFoy and moving Polidor to third. Vanecek was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. A single from Parker Duncan scores two more runs and moves Vanecek to third. Caden Brown then stepped up and singled on the first pitch of his at bat, scoring Vanecek. With Duncan on third, Brown stole second, Duncan was able to score on the throw to second and gave Lapeer a 9-5 lead. Lapeer added on a run in the fifth when Jake Bolton doubled to right scoring Nathan Fantin from second.
Tim Polidor was the winning pitcher for Lapeer. He surrendered one run on two hits over three innings, striking out five. Nathan Fantin threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Brown started the game for Lapeer. He lasted two innings, allowing two hits and four runs while striking out one and walking one
Will led Lapeer with two hits in three at bats.
