Saturday at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, the 60 top bowlers from regions all around Michigan met for the state individual championship. After six games only the top 16 would advance to the elimination round. Lapeer bowler Sarah Lyerla was one of those 60 bowlers and bowled very well. Sara got a solid start by scoring a 178, then climbed into the top 16 with games of 211 and 202. Her position was fluctuating through the 4th and 5th games with scores of 171 and 157. With a trip to “The Arena” and advancing to the the final 16 on the line, Sarah through a very solid 184 to ensure her advancing to the elimination round. In the elimination round, Sarah ran into a red-hot bowler from Oxford, who threw games of 219 and 213. Sarah threw solid games of 169 and 182 but was knocked out. For her performance all year, and her advancement to the final rounds of the state competition, Sarah was selected for second team all-state honors. Sarah will be continuing her bowling career at Rochester University next year.
