It came down to the wire on Tuesday, with Lapeer taking the victory after scoring 3 in the bottom of the sixth to walk off Heritage 5-4.
Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning Lapeer got a single from Jett Land to lead off the inning. Land immediately stole second base to get in scoring position. After a walk to Seth Burgess and Jarren Ross the bases were loaded with one out. A passed ball to Matt Howard scored Land from third and advanced Burgess and Ross. Howard then lined a sinking line drive to right that the right fielder couldn’t field cleanly resulting in an error. Burgess scored easily and Ross was sent home as well scoring the winning run without a play.
Lapeer jumped out to an early lead in the first. Riley LaFoy was hit with a pitch to lead off the game and advanced to third on a wild pitch and an error. With two out, Tyler Vanecek drilled a single to left center on a 0-1 count, scoring LaFoy from third. Lapeer added a run in the third when Land scored on a passed ball after reaching on an error, stealing second, and getting to third on a wild pitch.
Shane Williams was cruising on the mound and Lapeer held a 2-0 lead heading into the 4th. WIth two outs Lapeer committed a costly error which led to Heritage scoring three unearned runs and taking the lead. Heritage added another unearned run in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead until Lapeer came back for the dramatic win in the bottom half of the sixth.
Shane Williams got the complete game win for Lapeer Lightning JV. He surrendered four unearned runs on six hits over six innings, striking out three. Land, Vanecek, Howard, and Williams all had one hit to lead Lapeer at the dish.
