Wow! What an exciting relay meet! 2nd place finish with 28 medals won (16 Silver-2nd place finishes and 12 Bronze-3rd place finishes) This was a great event for our team!

It should be noted that Saginaw Heritage has some issues with their timing system, resulting in us primarily having only completed race times (no relay splits). Our team swam so strong, dropping overall time in at least 5 of the 10 relays we competed in. We did not have a relay team in Event #7-300 Butterfly Relay, as we only had 12 girls competing at this meet and they were only allowed to swim in a maximum of 3 relays.

The meet started out with a dive relay where each team had to have 2 divers split the normal 6 dives performed. Diver #1 had to complete dives 1, 3, 5 with Diver #2 completing dives 2, 4, 6. This was the debut of Mataya Kenny diving for our team along with our veteran Alicia Rowley. They did a fantastic job, finishing in 2nd place.

Event #2 was an 800 Freestyle Relay with 3 swimmers. The 1st swimmer (Julie Martin) had to swim 200 Free, 2nd swimmer (Alexis George) swam 400 Free, and the 3rd swimmer (Alida Wing) swam 200 Free. All 3 girls had outstanding swims, dropped time and placed 2nd.

Event #3 was a 200 Medley Relay that the 2 Divers were required to be in. (Most Divers typically don’t swim, only dive, making this a unique relay) Being that our team is smaller than most, I do require our Divers to also swim events. This came in to our advantage. Diver Alicia Rowley started off our team strong, swimming 50 Back, followed by Jenny Liu swimming 50 Breast, Christine Corner was the 3rd leg swimming 50 Fly and Diver Mataya Kenny anchored the relay with 50 Free. They all kept up the momentum set by Alicia and finished in 2nd place.

Event #4 was another 200 Medley Relay. Both Christine Corner and Jenny Liu turned right around and also swam in this event. This time Christine Corner led off the relay with 50 Back, Jenny Liu did the 50 Breast leg again, Alexis George swam a strong 50 Fly, followed by Michaela Ray anchoring the relay with 50 Free and sealing their 3rd place finish.

Event #5 was the 400 Freestyle Relay, where each swimmer had to swim 100 Free. Our team of Jaden Angus, Julie Martin, Alida Wing and Michaela Ray had strong swims, dropped time and finished in 3rd place.

Event #6 was the 300 Medley Relay, where each swimmer had to swim a 100 IM. Our team of Jessica Corner, Audrey Warren and Emilie Niquette had phenomenal swims, dropping -32.84 overall and placed 2nd.

Event #8 was the 300 Backstroke Relay, with 4 swimmers. The lead off leg (Christine Corner) had to swim 100 Back, the 2nd and 3rd legs (Michaela Ray and Alida Wing) each swam 50 Back, and the anchor (Jessica Corner) had to swim 100 Back. All 4 girls swam extremely strong, dropped time and finished in 4th place.

Event #9 was the 300 Breaststroke Relay, with 4 swimmers. The lead off leg (Emilie Niquette) swam 100 Breast, the 2nd and 3rd legs (Julie Martin and Jenny Liu) each swam 50 Breast, with Audrey Warren anchoring the relay swimming 100 Breast. This was another great relay with our girls finishing in 3rd place.

Event #10 was the 400 Medley Relay. Each swimmer had to swim 100 yards of their stroke. Jessica Corner led off the relay very strong with 100 Back, Audrey Warren kept the momentum going with her leg of the 100 Breast, followed by Emilie Niquette cruising through her leg of 100 Fly and Jaden Angus did a fantastic job anchoring the relay with her 100 Free. They finished in 3rd place.

Event #11 (last event) was the 200 Freestyle Relay. All four swimmers (Alicia Rowley, Alexis George, Mataya Kenny and Jaden Angus) had to each swim 50 Free. This was such an exciting competitive race! Our team was swimming strong, but coming into the final leg, we were in 3rd place. Jaden Angus had an outstanding swim, making up time and out touching the other team to place 2nd.

Congratulation, Ladies on an OUTSTANDING meet! I couldn’t be more proud of all of you, your achievements and how you represented our school! Go Lightning!
