The Lapeer Freshman squad started hot scoring three runs in first inning. The big hit was a two run single by Tyler Vanecek. After the first the Lightning bats went cold, just like the weather. Lightning pitching was strong throughout only giving up one earned run. Unfortunately the defense led to three unearned runs late in the game, the bats went cold and Oxford was able to pull out the win.
Offensively Lapeer was led by Justin Pohl who went 2-3 with a double and Seth Burgess, 2-3 with an RBI. Others with base hits were Tim Polidor, Kody Sweeney, and Tyler Vanecek.
The Lightning pitching was strong as well. Matt Howard started and went two innings giving up one run on two hits. Howard was relieved by Lucas Skwirsk, who was making his return to the mound after a year off due to an injury. Skwirsk had a great return going two innings of one hit ball including 2 K’s and 2 unearned runs. Jarren Ross finished the game with two innings of one hit ball with one K and one unearned run. Unfortunately Ross was saddled with the tough loss.
Lapeer will next face league rival Davison on the road next Wednesday, 4/18.
