Lightning News · Middle School Winter Sports Update – Updated 1-19-20

Middle School Volleyball:

On Thursday, the MHSAA made the determination that volleyball is not a “contact sport.” As a result, 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball may resume normal practices on Tuesday, January 19th. They will then begin playing games on Monday, January 25th. A modified five-game schedule will be made available soon. The same standard pre-practice COVID screening procedures (taking temperature, MI Symptom questions, etc.) will remain in place. Players will not be required to take COVID-19 tests. More information on spectator limits, etc. to follow.

Middle School Wrestling:

On Wednesday, January 13th, the MHSAA made the determination that all winter “contact sports” (including wrestling) could resume only non-contact practices on January 16th. Per the MHSAA , standard “contact” practices cannot resume until February 1st.

Voluntary non-contact workouts for 6th-8th grade wrestlers will begin on Wednesday, January 20th from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. (4:30 – 5:30 p.m. for RW student athletes) at CFI. Workouts will run Monday through Friday until Friday, January 29th.

Middle School wrestling practice will resume on Monday, February 1st from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at CFI.

Meets are tentatively scheduled to begin in late February/early March. More information will be forthcoming once a schedule is set.

Winter 2 Middle School Sports Update:
Competitive Cheer is still slated to start practicing on Monday February 8th. Competitions will start the first week of march.
Boys Basketball tryouts will start Monday February 22nd with competitions starting the first week of March also.
– Athletes should sign up in the main office and make sure they complete the clearance process.
